Tasks and Tactics 3rd Quarter 2015

Big Water Operations Overview

For the 2015 3rd quarter Minimum Company Standards.  The term “Big Water Operations” refers to any incident that requires large volumes of continuously flowing water specifically in a non-hydranted area.  Big Water Operations require a well organized tanker shuttle, engineered water supply point and will utilize either a hitch or portable tank to off load the water at the scene.  Big water operations may include offensive or defensive operations.  In addition to the tasks listed below, the scenario will include foam applications for both suppression and exposure protection and will be run in Blue Card format using Blue Card terminology.

Blitzfire Nozzle

Objectives:

FF will deploy and set up Blitzfire nozzle to an assigned location for exposure protection or defensive operations.

Required Skills:
-Know the location of the Blitzfire on each engine
-Deploy the Blitzfire nozzle to proper location for assignments
-Properly Set up Blitzfire nozzle with a 3” hose line
-Be able to quickly adjust the nozzle to most effective direction and stream pattern.
-Be able to move the Blitzfire with a charged hose line.

3” Hose Line

Objectives:

FF will deploy a 3” hose line to an assigned location for exposure protection or defensive operations.

Required Skills:
-Deploy the 3” hose line and proper nozzle from the truck to the assigned location
-Coordinate moving a charged hose line to a new location

Monitor Operation

Objectives:

-FF will effectively operate the engine mounted monitor for exposure protection or defensive operations
-FF Will efficiently remove the monitor from the apparatus and using a monitor base, set up a ground monitor for exposure protection or defensive operations

Required Skills:
-Be familiar with all means of adjusting the monitor for effective operation
-Operate monitor while it is mounted on the apparatus
-Coordinate monitor operation with apparatus operator
-Safe and efficient removal of monitor from apparatus
-Properly deployment and set up monitor on the base
-Extend hose line and quickly secure to the monitor using the double loop method
-Properly adjust the monitor to proper elevation
-Adjust stream pattern if applicable
-Disassemble Monitor and return to service
Deploy Hitch

Objective:

FF will efficiently set up a hitch for effective water shuttle operations

Required Skills:
-Know the location of all hitch components
-Assemble the hitch
-Deploy hitch to maximize water shuttle efficiency
-Attach hitch to proper pump panel intake
-Communicate proper hitch operations for water shuttle
-Disassemble all equipment and return to proper storage location

Deployment of Portable Tank (s)

Objective:

FF will properly set up portable tank for water shuttle operations

FF will properly set up a double dump tank utilizing a jet siphon for tank equalization

Required Skills:
- Know the location of portable tanks
-Properly set up and orient portable tank(s) at the assigned location in a timely manner
-Assemble the jet siphon per manufactures instructions
-Set up jet siphon to properly draw and discharge water
-Drain and disassemble portable tank
-Return equipment to proper storage location

Prepare Hydrant Water Supply Point

Objective:

FF will quickly prepare a hydrant as a water supply point to maximize efficiency of water shuttle operations

Required Skills:

-Know the location of all equipment on the apparatus required to dress the hydrant and set up water supply point
-Quickly and efficiently dress out the hydrant
-Assemble the water supply point to maximize water shuttle efficiency
